What it is genuinely good for
Metallic is the one system where the finish is the point. Metallic pigment is suspended in clear resin, poured, and then moved while it is still liquid with a combination of tools and air until it develops depth, movement and something close to the look of polished stone. Nobody can reproduce a metallic floor exactly, including the person who laid it, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on what you want.
Showrooms, retail floors, entry halls, feature rooms, basement bars and the occasional garage where the cars are the hobby rather than the transport. Anywhere the floor is meant to be looked at rather than worked on.
The reflectivity is a large part of it. A metallic floor bounces light in a way a chip floor never will, which in a dark room or a space with good lighting design is a real effect rather than a photograph trick.
It is also the only system we lay where the customer is genuinely buying a one off. The pattern that develops is a function of that pour, that day, that room. We can show you other floors and we cannot promise yours will look like them.

Where it is the wrong answer
Metallic has no texture. It cures to a smooth, glass like surface, and a smooth surface with water on it is slippery. That rules it out of pool decks, exterior steps, entrances that take rain in off the street, and any commercial area where somebody could reasonably get hurt.
It also shows wear more honestly than flake does. A chip surface breaks up scuffs visually. A metallic floor with a scratch across it has a scratch across it, and in a busy garage with tools and jack stands that becomes visible faster than people expect.
And it is unforgiving of a bad slab. Flake hides unevenness beautifully. A high gloss reflective surface telegraphs every ripple in the concrete underneath, so the prep and any levelling work matters more here than on any other system we build.
What the price covers
Every one of these, every time
Every one of these is in the price as standard. The only thing that moves a number is what we find in the concrete, and you hear that at the walkthrough.
The order the work happens in
Clear and mask first, which is why the room has to be completely empty before we arrive. A slab cannot be ground in patches around obstacles, because ground and unground areas take the coating differently and the join always shows.
Then grinding, which is the longest and dustiest stage and the one that decides whether the floor lasts. Extraction runs the whole time the machines do, both for the mess and because silica off dry ground concrete is a genuine exposure issue.
Then repair, then the base coat, then the flake broadcast by hand into the wet base until it will not take any more. Those three run together on the same day because the base has a working time and the chip has to be in before it closes.
Day two is the scrape back, the vacuum, and the polyaspartic. You can normally walk on it that evening, put things back the next day, and park on a garage floor after about three days.
How we quote it honestly
Metallic costs more than flake for the same area, and the reason is labor rather than material. The pour has to be worked continuously within the working time of the resin, and it takes more people and more skill to develop the pattern evenly across a large floor.
It is also the system where we most often talk customers out of what they arrived asking for. If the room is a working garage or anywhere that gets wet, we will say so and suggest flake with a darker blend, which usually gets people most of the drama with none of the drawbacks.
Where it is right, it is genuinely striking, and it is the one floor customers photograph and send to us afterwards.
A floor that was ground properly and repaired before the first coat will still look right in ten years.

Maintenance is the same as any of our systems, a dust mop and a neutral cleaner, with one extra consideration. A high gloss surface shows dust and footprints sooner than a textured one, so a metallic floor in a busy room looks like it needs cleaning more often even though it does not actually get dirtier.
Grit is the thing to keep off it. Fine sand tracked in underfoot is what puts hairline scratches into any gloss surface over years, so a mat at the door does more for a metallic floor than anything else you can do.
If it ever does dull in a walkway, the topcoat can be abraded and recoated in the same way a flake floor can, without disturbing the metallic layer underneath.

Before you book
Straight answers to the questions that come up before anybody commits to anything.
Can you make it grippier in one area?
Yes, and we do it regularly. Traction is zoned rather than uniform, so an entrance that takes rain off the street or a ramp can be finished with more texture than the rest of the room. It is the same system with a different topcoat specification in that area, and it is decided on the walkthrough.
Can you help me pick a color?
That is part of the walkthrough and it is a step customers tell us other companies skip. Jimmy brings samples, holds them against your walls in your light, and talks through what each one will hide and what it will show. It takes ten minutes and it removes the only part of this process people ever regret.
What about oil and brake fluid?
Wipe it up when you notice it and the floor is fine. That is rather the point of the coating, because those are exactly the things that stain bare concrete permanently within hours. Nothing in a garage will get through a polyaspartic topcoat in the time it takes you to fetch a rag.
Can you fix the pitting along my garage door?
Yes, and it is one of the most common repairs we do. That strip takes more road salt than anything else on the property, so it degrades first. It gets cut back to sound concrete, rebuilt and leveled, and then the coating terminates into a saw cut at the door rather than feathering out where a tire would chip it.
How is this different from a kit off the shelf?
A kit gives you a thin film rolled over concrete that was etched rather than ground, which is why so many of them peel within a season. We profile the slab mechanically, use professional grade American made material at a much higher build, and back the result in writing. The material cost is a small part of the difference. The preparation is most of it.
Will you match another quote?
Not usually, and here is the honest reason. If another number is meaningfully lower it is almost always buying you a different floor, most often an etched slab instead of a ground one or a partial broadcast instead of a full one. We would rather show you where the difference is and let you decide than cut the stage that decides whether the floor lasts.
Is there anything off for service workers?
There is. Military, police, fire and hospital staff all get a discount, and it has been in place since Cobra started rather than being a seasonal offer. Mention it when you call, because it is applied by hand rather than automatically.
Can you match a floor you did before?
Usually yes. The blend names are consistent, so if you liked a neighbor floor or you are extending into another bay we can normally order the same chip. Bear in mind that lighting changes how a blend reads, so the same product in a different room will not look identical, which is worth seeing in person before you commit.
