Flake epoxy floor running down a commercial corridor with doors on both sides

Colored sand instead of vinyl chip

A tougher, grippier broadcast built for kitchens, wash down areas and anywhere the floor gets genuinely abused.

Residential work

Harder, grippier, less forgiving underfoot

Quartz is flake with the vinyl swapped for colored quartz sand. It is broadcast the same way, into a wet base until the surface is full, and sealed the same way. What changes is the hardness of the aggregate and the texture it leaves, and those two differences move it into a completely different set of rooms.

Quartz sand is considerably harder than a vinyl chip, so a quartz floor takes abrasion better and holds up under impact and point loads that would mark a flake system.

It also leaves a much more aggressive texture. That is the reason it exists. In a commercial kitchen with water and grease on the floor, or a wash down area in a food or veterinary setting, a flake surface is not grippy enough and quartz is the correct specification.

The cost is comfort. Quartz is not a floor you want to kneel on for an hour or walk barefoot across. In a home gym or a family basement it would be the wrong choice, and we would say so.

We show up, finish on time, and get it right. No hidden fees, no surprises.

Jimmy and Justyn, Cobra Epoxy

Where it earns its place

Commercial kitchens, food prep areas, breweries, veterinary practices and kennels with wash down, laboratory floors, and industrial areas with chemical exposure and constant washing.

Domestically it turns up occasionally in a serious workshop, a boot room that takes real mud, or the wet area around an indoor pool. All of those have the same profile: water, dirt and hard use, with comfort a long way down the list.

The color range is narrower than flake and more muted, because you are working with colored sand rather than printed vinyl. Most quartz floors read as a warm or cool speckled stone, which suits the rooms it goes in.

A floor that was ground properly and repaired before the first coat will still look right in ten years.

Cleaning and coving

Quartz floors are usually specified with a coved base running up the wall, because the rooms that need quartz are the rooms that get hosed or scrubbed. A coved base removes the ninety degree joint where water and residue collect and makes the whole floor a single washable surface.

The texture that makes quartz safe also makes it hold dirt more readily than a smoother finish, so these floors want a deck brush or a scrubber rather than a mop. In a commercial setting that is what the site already has.

Chemical resistance is specified to what actually lands on the floor. Tell us what you use and how often and the topcoat gets chosen for it rather than assumed.

Choosing between quartz and flake

The question that decides it is whether people are ever on the floor with bare skin, and whether water is present routinely rather than occasionally.

Water plus bare feet, and comfort matters: flake with an exterior grade texture. Water plus footwear, and hygiene or hard use matters more than comfort: quartz.

There is also a middle path we use fairly often, which is a flake system with a heavier anti slip additive in the topcoat. It gets you a good part of the traction without the full coarseness of quartz, and in a lot of small commercial rooms it is the right compromise. Which one your room wants is a walkthrough conversation rather than a catalog decision.

What the price covers

Every one of these, every time

The build does not get trimmed to hit a number. If a slab needs more work than expected you hear about it at the walkthrough, not on the invoice.

Quartz sand, not vinyl chipHarder aggregate, better abrasion and impact resistance.
Genuinely aggressive textureThe reason it exists. Grip with water and grease on the floor.

The four stages, every job

Stage one is the grind. Diamond grinders with dust extraction take the slab down to clean, open concrete so the coating has a mechanical profile to key into. This is the stage that decides whether a floor lasts, and it is the one kits and cheap quotes skip.

Stage two is repair. Every crack, divot, pit and spalled patch gets cut out where it needs it, filled and leveled. Control joints get treated properly rather than coated straight across. A coating laid over a crack simply prints its shape and the crack opens again anyway.

Stage three is the base coat and the broadcast. American made base goes down and bonds into the profile, and flake goes into it by hand until the wet surface will not take another handful. Full broadcast, not a scatter.

Stage four is the scrape back and the topcoat. The loose chip comes off, the floor is vacuumed, and a polyaspartic topcoat seals the system in. That topcoat is the layer that takes the wear, resists the chemicals and gives you the finish you actually look at.

On the map

Where we do this work

We run roughly fifty miles out from Boyertown, which covers Berks, Montgomery, Chester and Lehigh counties. The service areas page lists every town.

Not sure whether you are inside that? Call and ask. We would rather tell you honestly than send somebody on a two hour round trip.

Questions

Before you book

The things people ask on the phone before they book, answered the way Jimmy would answer them.

Is it food safe?

The cured system is inert and non toxic, and these floors are used in commercial kitchens and food premises routinely. What matters more for a food setting is the detailing rather than the chemistry: coving at the walls, correct falls to drain, and a texture that stays safe with water and grease on it.

Are these floors slippery when wet?

No. The flake broadcast leaves a texture under the topcoat that gives real grip, and on pool decks, steps and entrances we specify a coarser texture deliberately. That is the reason flake is the standard choice anywhere water lands on the floor rather than a decorative preference.

How disruptive is this to a working building?

Manageable, if it is planned properly. The floor gets divided so there is always somewhere for your stock and your people, the grinders run with extraction so dust is not going through the building, and each section comes back into use as it finishes. The scheduling is usually a bigger conversation than the coating.

How do I look after it?

A dust mop for the everyday and a mild cleaner with warm water when it needs more. No wax, no polish and nothing acidic. For a garage, hosing it out is fine. The finish does not need sealing or topping up, which is rather the point of it.

Can we phase the reopening?

That is normally exactly how it works. Each section comes back into service as it reaches the right point, so you are never waiting on the whole floor. The order the sections run in is planned around which areas you need first, which is part of what the walkthrough establishes.

How does pricing work?

Jimmy walks the space, measures it, looks at the condition of the concrete and puts real pricing in your hands. No hidden fees and no surprises later, which is a promise the company was built on. Anything we find in the slab gets raised before the work starts rather than added to the bill afterwards.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Interior work usually goes in within a few weeks of the walkthrough. Exterior work is seasonal and books up from spring onward, so patios and pool decks want organizing over the winter if you have a date in mind. Jimmy will tell you the real lead time on the call rather than a comfortable one.

Are the materials any different from a big box kit?

Completely. A consumer kit is a thin, high water content coating designed to be rolled onto concrete somebody etched with acid. What we lay is a professional grade American made system at several times the build, bonded into a mechanically ground slab. The material is a small part of the price difference. The preparation is most of it.
