Bally slabs, honestly assessed
Bally is a small borough on Route 100 a few minutes north of Bechtelsville and about six miles from where we are based. It grew around the Bally Block Company and the Catholic mission that gave the town its name, and it has the compact borough layout that comes with that history.
Housing here is mostly older, which means block basements, hand poured slabs and detached garages set behind the houses. Every one of those gets the moisture question asked before anything is specified, which for a borough of this age is normal rather than pessimistic.
Being this close changes what makes sense to do. A single set of front steps, one bay of a garage, a small basement, all of them stand up as their own visit here in a way they would not at the far edge of the radius. If it needs coating and it is in Bally, it is worth a call.
There is a practical benefit to being six miles away that goes past convenience. If anything ever needed looking at under warranty, that is a ten minute drive rather than a scheduling exercise, and a question two years after the job gets answered by turning up. Whether the slab needs a moisture tolerant primer, which comes from a measurement rather than a guess. How much repair is in front of us. Whether an old coating has to come off first. Which blend suits the light in that particular room, and how much texture the surface needs for what happens on it.
That is why nobody can price a floor properly over the phone and why the walkthrough is not a sales visit. It is the diagnosis, and the diagnosis is most of the skill.

Indoors and outdoors are different problems
Interior slabs never get cold enough to go through the freeze and thaw cycle. Their problem is moisture arriving from below as vapor, which is a measurement question rather than a weather one, and it is why every basement we quote gets tested.
Exterior slabs have the opposite issue. Moisture from below is irrelevant and everything comes from above: rain, snow, salt, ultraviolet light and forty freeze cycles a winter.
That is why the two get built differently. An outdoor system uses an ultraviolet stable topcoat, a coarser texture for wet traction, and joints cut and treated so the slab can move. Using an indoor specification outdoors is one of the more common ways a coating fails early.

What people here tend to ask before they book a walkthrough.
Are you actually local or is this a franchise?
Local, and small on purpose. Cobra is Jimmy and Justyn plus the crew, working out of Boyertown for three years. The person who quotes your job is the person holding the grinder, and there is no call center in between.
Can I use a snow blower on it?
Yes, and a plastic shovel, and ice melt. A properly built exterior system takes all of that without complaint. What we would avoid is a steel edged blade dragged hard across the surface repeatedly and metal wheeled equipment scraped over a step nosing. Neither will destroy it, both will eventually mark the topcoat.
How do you know whether a slab is too wet to coat?
We put a meter on it. A calcium chloride or relative humidity test tells us how much vapor is coming up through the concrete, and that number decides the specification rather than our optimism. Most slabs are fine. Some need a moisture tolerant primer underneath. A few need a drainage problem sorted first, and you will hear that at the walkthrough.
When can I park on it again?
Around three days after the topcoat goes down. You can walk on it the evening it is finished, and put boxes and shelving back the next day, but a hot tire sitting on a system that has not fully hardened is the one thing worth waiting for. Rushing that step is how people mark a brand new floor.
My concrete is in rough shape. Is it too far gone?
Almost certainly not. Surface damage, pitting, spalling and cracking are all normal repair work and they get sorted as part of the job. The one case where we will tell you to stop is structural movement, a slab that has heaved or dropped at a corner, because a coating sits on top of that problem rather than solving it.
What goes into the number?
Square footage, the condition of the concrete, how much repair it needs, how many edges have to be cut in by hand, whether anything has to come off first, and what the moisture reading says. Those last four are why two rooms of the same size are frequently not the same price, and why the walkthrough exists.
Do you do anything for referrals?
We do, and in an area like this it comes up more than you would expect, because garage floors are visible from the street and neighbors ask. Send somebody our way and both of you save. There are also discounts for military, police, fire and hospital workers.
Can you match a floor you did before?
Usually yes. The blend names are consistent, so if you liked a neighbor floor or you are extending into another bay we can normally order the same chip. Bear in mind that lighting changes how a blend reads, so the same product in a different room will not look identical, which is worth seeing in person before you commit.
